Obituary for Janet Stephens

Janet  Stephens
Janet (Luke) Stephens, 82, of Somers, wife of George Stephens passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018, at Vernon Manor Health Care Center. Janet was born January 26, 1935, in Dorchester, MA the daughter of the late Arthur and Thelma Luke. Janet was raised in Quincy and Abington, MA and later moved to Dover, MA in 1960 where she was a member of the Dover Foundation and performed in The King and I, South Pacific, Girl Crazy, and Carousel. Following, she settled in Somers, CT in 1976 where she made her home and raised her family. She attended Chamberlain School of Retailing in Boston and continued her studies in accounting and bookkeeping at Quinnipiac College. Janet volunteered as an EMT with the Somers Fire Department and Ambulance responding to many calls throughout the years. She was past President of the Springfield Symphony Chorus and an active member of over 25 years in the chorus at Trinity Methodist Church in Springfield, MA, where she performed in the Boar's Head festival for the past 12 years, and weddings and funerals. Janet was an active member of the Somers Senior Center where she served as the Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer. Janet served two terms as Tax Collector for the Town of Somers. She was an active member of the Village Players where she performed as one of the Aunts in Arsenic and Old Lace. Janet was employed as the Office Manager for Galileo Corp. of America as well as the Bookkeeper and assistant to the Executive Vice President. Janet was also employed at the Eastman Printing Co. where she was responsible for all the accounting and later with Rubbermaid in Somers as the Office Manager. In addition to her husband George, she is also survived by two daughters, Cheryl Salerno and husband, Joseph of Tarpon Springs, FL, Lydia Dusty and husband, Bryan of Somers; her son, Mark Stephens and wife, Lita of Roseville, CA; her grandchildren, Alysia Palazzo, Casey Reuter, Nick Reuter, Tenaj Caputo, Jenna Stephens; great-grandchildren, Brick Palazzo, Anthony Ortiz, Jonathan, Tyler and Cali Caputo; two brothers, Carlton Luke and his wife, Jean of Ft. Meyers, FL, and Arther Luke and his wife, Sonja of Sandwich, MA; a sister, Pricilla Migliacci and her husband, Dominic of Marston Mills, MA, and many nieces, nephews and their spouses. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Friday, January 5, 2018, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A funeral service for Janet will be celebrated on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 361 Sumner Ave., Springfield, MA. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 361 Sumner Ave., Springfield, MA, 01108, or, Vernon Manor Recreation Fund, which brought her great joy and who welcomed her since the abrupt closing of Blair Manor where she resided the past four years.
